To put thoughts down on paper is an act of conviction, a silent declaration of sorts. As a perennially self-doubt-filled person I experience things in 4 parts, an event happens, there’s an initial reaction in my head, then there’s the “is this the right response based on people around me” filter, finally an edited response to not offend anyone.
This exercise is for me to put down thoughts without fear. Things I think, things I am curious about, things I want to remember. Unapologetically. I may change my mind later or believe in the exact opposite, but that’s beside the point. Amidst all the fuzziness that goes on in the interior, I want to parse out a few strands of clarity.
This studio log was inspired by artists who came before me. Whose notebook scribbles accompany artworks in exhibitions. At times more revealing than the final works of art.
Jack Whitten‘s studio log

Taking cue from Jack Whitten, here’s my version of:
THINGS TO AVOID AT ALL COST:
- NOISE
- FEEDING THE EGO
- CLICHES
- OTHERS’ OPINIONS
- BUTTONED UP-NESS
- EXPLANATIONS
- MORAL SUBJUGATION
- SENTIMENTALITY
